TimeBuddyPro's free online countdown timer counts down from any time you set — hours, minutes, and seconds — and plays an audible alert when it reaches zero. Use the quick presets for common durations, pause and resume without losing your place, and reset instantly. It works on phones, tablets, and computers with no sign-up needed.

How to use the chess clock

Pick a time control (1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes per player), press Start, and Player 1’s clock runs first. After each move, tap your own side to stop your clock and start your opponent’s. If your time hits zero, you flag and lose.

Popular time controls

Bullet (1 min), Blitz (3 or 5 min) and Rapid (10–15 min) are one tap away. Longer 30-minute games suit relaxed or learning play. Tournament players often add increments — for casual games here, sudden-death keeps it simple.

Not just for chess

Use it for any two-player timed game: Scrabble, Go, backgammon, or debate practice where each side gets equal speaking time. It also works as a fair turn timer for board-game nights.

Free and private

Runs entirely in your browser with no account and nothing sent anywhere. Works on phones and tablets — prop it between the players and tap away.

What happens when a player’s time runs out?

Can I pause the chess clock?

Yes. Press Pause any time and Resume to continue exactly where you left off.
